Get involved in Cemeteries Week 2018
Cemeteries are an essential part of our society. Not only do they provide us with a place to remember and celebrate the people we have lost, but they also provide oases of calm, away from the bustle of everyday life. Some cemeteries are building playgrounds and open spaces where people can linger, and where nature can thrive.
Cemeteries Week is about demystifying death and celebrating what cemeteries represent as enduring, welcoming places for people to connect with each other and their communities, and to remember their history, heroes and loved ones.
The 2018 event will aim to unify people and organisations from around New Zealand to preserve and activate these key public spaces. Events taking place around the country during Cemeteries Week 2018 will range from heritage walks and open days to live music.
Cemeteries Week is organised by the New Zealand Cemeteries and Crematoria Collective (NZCCC), supported by the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA).
Organise an Event for 2018!
The future of our cemeteries and crematoria relies on a collective effort between communities, councils, government agencies and businesses.
Being informed is the first step. This site includes useful resources on cemeteries and crematoria. We have also set up a webpage to profile the events being run during Cemeteries Week, so do get in touch if you are planning something you would like people to know about.
